Compensation

Adjunct salaries are paid at the end of each month during the course of the term. Full-time faculty members teaching in the Holt School on an overload basis will receive payment for Holt courses included with their regular salary. The Holt School normally requires a minimum enrollment of eight (8) students to avoid cancellation. In the event enrollments drop below the minimum expectation, the Holt School may cancel the course or, possibly, offer a pro-rated compensation amount.

Teaching appointments are dependent upon student demand and course/scheduling needs within academic departments. Appointments are offered on a term-by-term basis. Adjunct faculty may teach no more than five courses per academic year (fall through the subsequent summer) and no more than two courses per academic term.

Course Meeting Times

Regular evening classes in the fall and spring terms meet for two hours and forty minutes with a break of fifteen minutes included. Summer term hours for the six-week courses meet twice per week for three hours and twenty-five minutes. Weekend options are available in all terms.

Classes are not to be dismissed early. Course credit is based on the amount of scheduled “contact” or “meeting” times per semester. A total of 40 contact hours is required per semester for 4-credit-hour courses.

Faculty who miss a class for any reason – illness, professional obligations, personal emergency – must arrange to have a substitute meet the class or schedule a make-up session later in the semester. Additionally, faculty are required to notify the Holt School Office of the absence and the name of the substitute instructor who will be teaching the class.

Availablity Outside Class

Adjunct faculty are not required to schedule office hours, but should arrange meeting opportunities with students (preferably before or after class). A location within the Holt Office may be used if the classroom is unavailable. Full-time faculty are expected to keep posted office hours each term.

Commencement

Faculty are expected to participate in the annual Commencement on Saturday, May 7, 2016, 10:00 a.m.
